Jon Bean is a saxophonist from New England who has been an active performer in the Northeast for over twenty years. After finishing his study at the University of Massachusetts under the tutelage of Adam Kolker, Lynn Klock, Jeff Holmes, and Dave Sporny, he moved to Boston to study at the New England Conservatory of music and has been active on the scene in Boston ever since.
Jon has shared the stage with long time friend and saxophonist Mark Zaleski in various projects such as The Mark Zaleski Band, Planet Radio, and The Brighton Beat. He also has shared the stage with such luminaries as Hal Crook, David Liebman, Chris Cheek, Esperanza Spaulding, Antonio Sanchez, Lionel Loueke, as well as Lake Street Dive.
Jon is also a member of the Omar Thomas Large Ensemble, has performed with the Grammy Award winning 8-Bit Big Band, and regularly performs with the BTALC Big Band. He has played at venues such as Smalls, The Blue Note, Sculler’s Jazz Club, the Regattabar, The Side Door, The Berklee Performance Center, as well as many others across the country.
Jon’s current band has a nice blend of post bop sensibilities and a contemporary sound that includes various musical genres, and he plans to record an album with this band in the next calendar year. Jon is currently on faculty at Boston College High School as well as Berklee College of Music.
